Homework DUE Tuesday 05/23


  • Complete as much of the digital portfolio project as possible (scan/photograph clearly, label correctly, etc.)

  • Bring ALL traditional work (especially Project 02 and Process Work) to be photographed and digitally converted in class

  • Extra Credit Opportunity (5 pts.)- Draw a self portrait based off the one done in your sketchbook at the beginning of the semester; however, it MUST be done somehow better to receive credit!
    • Must be done on DRAWING paper (not printer paper), 8"x11" or bigger
    • Must bring your old self portrait drawing for comparison

Reminder- Tuesday's class will be partially devoted to photographing traditional work and working on portfolio. Later in the class, I will announce criteria for Thursday's mandatory art contest. Work for the contest can begin Tuesday evening. Prizes will be awarded at the end of Thursday.

Thursday- Portfolios will be turned in on USBs at the beginning of class. Bring student grade sheet. No exceptions for LATE submissions. Be here on time! 

Remaining time in Thursday's class will be to work on contest. Last portion of class will be dedicated to Q&A.

Project 07- Class Portfolio

DUETHURSDAY, MAY 26th

Turn in all the most updated versions of work for Project 01, 02, 03, 04, 05,  and 06 (if applicable) as digital photos on a USB Flash Drive:

Project 01- Hand-drawing Development Notes (Lines, Ellipses, Contours, Textures, etc.)
     - Should only be 4-10 pages worth of images

Project 02- Vehicle Design in Perspective
     - Include all Process Work (Silhouettes, Line Art Over Silhouettes, etc.)

Project 03- Apple Painting
     - Include all Process Work (Apple Warm-ups)

Project 04- Caricature Painting
     - Include all Process Work (Thumbnails, Studies, Value Keys, Color Keys, etc.)

Project 05- Hero Redesign & Process Work
     - Include all Process Work (Silhouettes, Thumbnails, Studies, Color Variations, Color Keys, etc.)

Project 06- Book "Movement" Illustration & Process Work
     - Include all Process Work (Thumbnails, Studies, Value Keys, Color Keys, etc.)

- All images must be: 
  • Properly labeled- "LastName_FirstName_128_Project(#)_(X).jpg"
    • Ex. Project 05 Super Hero Character Painting Project-

  • Project 01 will just be a photo of the notes you took for the assignment
ImportantBe sure to double-check that your USB/files work on another computer before coming to class. Corrupted files/flash drive will not be excused under any circumstances and will negatively affect your project grade.

Project 06- Stylized Book Cover/ Book Narrative Illustration

DUE: THURSDAY, MAY 19th 2016

Objective:
Choose a well-known, popular book or book series and illustrate ONE character in a key scene or front cover with a "twist," that also successfully captures the concept of movement or the passing of time.

The "twist" is that the character must be altered either by making them into an animal

Requirements:
- Must design from a well-known, iconic book or book series
         - If your professor hasn't heard of it, come up with an alternative choice
- Must successfully capture the concept of movement or the passing of time
- Must design a characters that is identifiable to the original story, but is based off animal
- Must include background environment setting
- Must have a presence of light source (aka. evidence of shadows and highlights to some degree)

Color: Acrylic/Ink OR Digital

Dimensions:
11" x 17"

Process Work Required:

- 1+ mood board
- 10 composition thumbnails
- 2 pages of animal studies
- 1 page of character design ideation
- 3+ value key tests
- 3+ color key tests

Project 05- Iconic Character Redesign

CRITIQUE: Tuesday, May 7th, 2017
DUE: Thursday, MAY 11th, 2016 @ 4:50 PM 

Objective:

  • Reimagine a design an iconic character influenced by an iconic time-period genre.
  • Create an illustration of character in dynamic pose


A) Choose a pre-existing character from the list below:

- Captain America
- Green Lantern
- Wonder Woman
- Scarlet Witch

B) Choose a classic RPG character class for your character:

- Soldier Class (Ex. Knight, Samurai, Barbarian)
- Magician Class (Ex. Wizard, Sorcerer, Druid )
- Rogue Class (Ex. Thief, Pirate, Hunter)
- Cleric Class (Ex. Priest, Witch Doctor, Monk)

C) Choose a time-period genre to influence your redesign:

- Old World West (Ex. Medieval Europe)
- Old World East (Ex. Feudal Japan)


Requirements:
- Must have reminiscent qualities of the original character design

- Must have reminiscent qualities of the RPG character class

- Must look old-world/medieval period in redesign (aka. no advance technology like robotics)

- Illustration must have some indication of three-dimensional form using lighting
          - Design can be realistic or stylized
          - Character must be "grounded"; no floating figure
          - Background can be ambiguous or specific

Project 04- Satirical Celebrity Caricature

CRITIQUE: 
DUE:

Objective:
Create ONE caricature portrait that captures a well-known celebrity (sports, film, television, politics etc.) and place them in a narrative that adds a humorous OR light-hearted spin.

Requirements:
- MUST capture the likeness of the celebrity
- MUST have exaggerated proportions to the face and head. 
     - NOT capturing realistic appearance. 
     - NOT stylizing to make them cartoon-flat or obscure/abstract.
- MUST convey a light-heartedness OR humor
- MUST be a human faced person
     - NO prosthetic make-upped or face-covered (helmet, mask, etc.) celebrities.
-MUST have at least show body from the WAIST up
     - NO portraits that cut off at the neck or shoulder line
